DAY-NULM Self-Help Groups Get a Major Platform in Jammu and Kashmir; Three-Day Promotion-cum-Sale Event Begins

In a significant initiative aimed at empowering women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and making them economically self-reliant, a three-day Promotion-cum-Sale event is being organized in Jammu and Kashmir under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), under the Jammu and Kashmir Housing and Urban Development Department. The event is being held from November 6 to November 8.
The main objective of this special initiative is to provide a suitable platform to products prepared by Self-Help Groups, enhance their visibility and create better marketing and sales opportunities for women associated with these groups.
The programme is being organized under the guidance of Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir Housing and Urban Development Department, Smt. Mandeep Kaur. Through this initiative, Self-Help Groups working under DAY-NULM are being provided an opportunity to showcase their products and reach out to the general public.
The three-day Promotion-cum-Sale holds special significance as women associated with Self-Help Groups prepare a variety of products through their skills, hard work and creativity. However, due to limited market access and lack of adequate publicity, many such products often fail to receive wider recognition. Events of this nature provide women entrepreneurs with an opportunity to directly market and sell their products and establish connections with new customers.
The event will enable Self-Help Groups to present the quality, usefulness and unique features of their products before the public. Encouraging locally manufactured products will also help strengthen women's self-employment opportunities and improve their sources of income.
DAY-NULM aims to provide better livelihood opportunities to urban poor households, promote skill development and connect women with economic activities through Self-Help Groups. Initiatives such as Promotion-cum-Sale events play an important role in achieving these objectives.
The three-day event being organized under the guidance of Smt. Mandeep Kaur is a commendable step towards connecting SHG products with markets, encouraging women entrepreneurship and promoting local economic activities.
Such initiatives not only boost the confidence of women associated with Self-Help Groups but also motivate them to transform their skills and creativity into sustainable business opportunities and become financially independent.
