Assam has achieved another milestone in preserving its rich cultural heritage as four traditional products have been awarded Geographical Indication (GI) tags. The newly recognised products are Karbi Anglong Handloom Products, Assam Bihu Pepa, Assam Bamboo Crafts and Deuri Handloom Products. The GI tags will help protect the authenticity of these unique items and boost their market value across India and abroad. Artisans and cultural organisations have welcomed the recognition, saying it will encourage traditional craftsmanship and create new economic opportunities. The achievement is expected to strengthen Assam’s identity as a hub of art, culture and heritage.
